Description

The Paynes Creek Wetlands are a series of man-made wetlands and ponds that are fed by a network of irrigation ditches as well as winter rains. The Paynes Creek Wetlands trail systems allow for great springtime wildlife and wildflower viewing. In the fall the wetlands are opened up to hunting, fishing, bird watching, hiking, and biking. Trailheads for the wetlands are located at the Bass Pond, the east side of the Wetlands, and at Paynes Creek Crossing. There is a restroom, picnic area, and large parking lot located at the Bass Pond. Be aware that hunting season may be open and the wetland area is often used for hunting.

Location

From I-5, just north of Red Bluff, CA, take the Jelly's Ferry exit and head east. Turn right on Bend Ferry Road and follow the road to the recreation sites and trailheads.
